Shared surveys around per-condition feeds

One pre-survey and one post-survey that all conditions share, with a different feed between them, and where the answers are in the export.

  1. Conditions as lines, surveys around them

Make one chamberline for each condition. Each line contains only what is different. Here, one line has a feed with no comments. The other line has the same feed with a critical thread under the ferry post.

Assign participants to a line with a counterbalance variable (Two conditions, counterbalanced shows how).

Put the questions for all participants in the Global Surveys of the experiment, not in each line. Thus you write them one time and the conditions cannot become different. One set of columns contains the answers of all participants.

    • The global pre-survey comes after the participant sets a name and before Carrier assigns a condition.
    • The global post-survey comes after the last chamber of the participant's line.
  2. The question before

Click the name of the experiment at the top of the builder to open its settings. Then open Global Surveys.

    Under Global Pre-Survey:

    • Choose Add Question.
    • Select Rating (1 to 5 by default).
    • Write the question.
    • Give it a variable name: trust_before.

The variable name is the column name in the export. Use a name that you can easily identify in the data.

A 1–5 rating of trust in the harbour office, saved as trust_before.
  3. The same question after

Under Global Post-Survey, add the same question with a different name: trust_after. Thus the two answers are in different columns, and one does not overwrite the other.

    Deploy to save.

Open editor & preview shows the survey as participants see it. You can also add pages there.

The same question in the post-survey, saved as trust_after.
  4. What participants see

The two participants answer the same question. Then the counterbalance sends them to different lines. One feed has the thread and the other feed does not.

Each participant goes from the feed to the same post-survey and finishes.

The same surveys before and after two different feeds.
  5. Where the answers are

In the data export, Responses has one row for each answer, with the participant id:

    • stage pre_survey: the question before.
    • stage global_post_survey: the question after.

Participants has assignedChamberLine, the name of the condition of each participant.

Join the two sheets on participantId. Then each row has the condition, trust_before and trust_after.

The export does not include studies in testing mode unless you include test data.
