Piloting with your lab

Try a study with colleagues before real participants take part. Learn about testing mode, many test participants at the same time, test data, the export and Go live.

  1. Testing mode

A new study runs in testing mode. The Testing badge shows next to its name. Carrier marks each participant, run and chatroom that starts in this mode as test data.

Test participants do not count toward your weekly, monthly or yearly allowance of completed participants. The limit on participants at the same time still applies.

The tables and counts of the dashboard include test participants. Thus you can monitor a pilot as you monitor a real session.

  2. Several participants at once

Open the study link one time for each test participant, each in a different window. Each window gets a different participant ID. Thus you can fill a group study from one computer.

Caution: do not duplicate a tab. A duplicated tab is the same participant, and it goes through the start again. Open a new link.

  3. Test data and the export

The export does not include test data unless you tick Include test data in export. The rows in Excel and CSV do not show if they are test or live data. Thus, export the pilot separately and do not mix it with real data.

While the study is in testing mode, the owner can remove the pilot. Use Clear test data in the menu of the study on the dashboard.

Carrier hides the data and does not delete it. But no button restores it. If you need it again, ask an administrator.

  4. Going live

Caution: you cannot undo Go live. After Go live, you cannot clear test data.

When the pilot is complete, select Go live in the menu of the study on the dashboard. Then confirm.

The data that Carrier already recorded does not change. The pilots stay test data. All participants who start after Go live are live data, and the export includes them by default.

Caution: go live only when no pilot is running. A pilot who is in the study keeps a test record. But a chat room that they join after Go live is live data.
