Match participants on a survey answer

An answer from an intake survey becomes a variable that pairs a participant who agrees with a participant who disagrees.

  1. Ask the question in an intake chamber

Add a one-person chamber before the discussion. Put a survey segment with the question in it.

Give the question a variable name, here stance. Then you can use the answer later.

Ask the question here, not in the global pre-survey. Carrier must store the answer with the participant before the discussion chamber decides which seat the participant can take.

A single-choice question, stance, with the answers agree and disagree.
  2. Turn the answer into a variable and gate the seats

Add an alias variable and select the survey answer as its source.

Then open each seat in the discussion chamber and add a condition to it:

    • One seat requires stance = agree.
    • The other seat requires stance = disagree.

Matching puts a participant in a seat only if the answer meets the condition. Thus each pair has one participant from each side.

stance comes from the intake answer, and the In favour and Against seats each require one side.
  3. Two participants who disagree are paired

Participants answer and wait a short time on the matching screen. Then each participant gets a seat opposite a participant with the other answer.

If two participants both agree, they continue to wait for a participant who disagrees.

Lena agrees, Omar disagrees, and Carrier matches them into the debate.
