Keep your work when the builder is offline

What the offline banner means, how to export your work as a file, what Deploy says while offline, and what to do when the connection returns.

  1. The banner

The builder keeps your experiment in the browser tab. Only Deploy sends it to the server. When the builder cannot connect to the server, a banner at the top says "The builder is offline". The line under the experiment name reads "Offline — Deploy does not work". Your work is still in this tab.

The banner appears, and the line under the name says that Deploy does not work.
  2. Export your work

Click Export JSON on the banner. The builder saves the experiment as a JSON file on your computer. The export needs no server, so it works while the builder is offline.

Export JSON on the banner saves the experiment as a file.
  3. Deploy while offline

Deploy does not work while the banner shows. If you click Deploy, then Update, the dialog says "The builder is offline — this update was NOT saved". The Export JSON link in the message also saves the file.

Update while offline: the dialog says that the update was not saved.
  4. When the connection returns

The builder checks the connection every 30 seconds. When the server answers, the banner closes and a message says "Connection restored. Deploy works again." Click Deploy, then click Update. If you closed the tab, open the builder and use Import JSON in the ⋯ menu.

The connection returns, and Update saves the experiment.
