Instruction pages that use answers

Write an instruction page in Markdown, set the label of its button, and show an earlier answer in the text with a variable.

  1. Write the page

    Select an Instruction segment.

    The settings are:

    • Button Text: the label on the button that moves the participant to the next step. The default is Continue.
    • Button Delay: the number of seconds before the button shows.

Alternatively, the page can make the participant scroll to the end. Or it can hide the button, and the timing of the segment moves participants on.

Edit content opens a Markdown editor with a live preview. Use # for headings, ** for bold and - for lists.

The button label changes to "On to the plan". The editor opens.
  2. Use an earlier answer

Insert variable, in the toolbar of the editor, shows the variables that this page can use. When you select a variable, the editor writes a token such as {{var.harbour_use}} into the text. The participant sees the value of the variable, not the token.

Here harbour_use is the answer to a survey question in an earlier one-person chamber. That answer became a variable. Match participants on a survey answer shows this procedure.

If a variable has no value yet, the page shows its default value or nothing.

NOTE: Feed captions use a token without the prefix, such as {{harbour_use}}. Instruction pages need the var. prefix.

The page shows the answer of the participant.
  3. What participants see

The participant answers the question. The next page shows the answer.

Carrier puts in the values when the page opens. Thus, ask the question in an earlier chamber. An answer from the same chamber can arrive at Carrier after the next page opens. Then the page shows nothing in place of the answer.
